Our curriculum ensures that we are ‘Enriching Lives’ for all our students throughout their journey from Year 7, to adults who contribute positively within our rich and diverse society.
Our curriculum is planned with the intention of enabling the best outcomes for all students no matter their starting points or barriers to learning. We pride ourselves on our broad, balanced, inclusive, and representative curriculum.

Our curriculum vision is modelled in the Art curriculum where we believe in an inclusive education for all.

Our curriculum intent is:
- Coherently plan, sequence, and adapt our curriculum to meet the unique needs of all of our learners.
- Offer breadth of study at KS3 that is sequential in leading to study at KS4 and then KS5; all students will be stretched and challenged over 5 - 7 years, taking into account different starting points.
- By drawing on other subjects in school such as English, Maths, Science and Technology students can develop effective literacy and numeracy skills through digital technology. This creates learners who are confident and competent readers, writers, and speakers, with essential analytical skills needed for life.
- Embed a range of wider enrichment opportunities and experiences, at least one per year, to ensure our learners have an educational experience that is rich and varied.
- Encompass the whole school core values to maximise the impact of the curriculum.

As a result the Art curriculum will:
- Enable all students to discover and develop other skills such as research skills, writing skills, collaboration and problem-solving skills whilst building self-confidence to support them in all aspects of life.
- Ensure that all students have a broad insight into the world of art, craft and design, from the past and present whilst evoking thoughts about the future.
- Enable all students to develop knowledge, understanding and skills across a variety of experiences and opportunities both within and out of the classroom setting.
- Enable all students to explore a variety of processes, tools, techniques, materials, and resources to help motive and build self confidence in written and practical activities.
- Enable students to discover and develop skills such as collaboration, teamwork and problem-solving skills whilst building resilience and determination to support them in all aspects of life.
- Ensure all students develop communication and literacy skills to evaluate and analyse creative works using the language of art, craft and design.
- Develop student’s understanding of the history of art, craft, design and architecture, including periods, styles and major movements from ancient times up to the present day.
- Ensure that all students about great artists, craft makers and designers, and understand the historical and cultural development of their art forms.
- Develop student’s creativity and their initiative to ‘think outside the box’, by pushing boundaries and taking risks.
- Ensure that all students are challenged and stretched by developing their leadership, resilience, and communication skills in order to prepare them for future aspirations, goals and the world of work.
