At Fortis Academy we are passionate about supporting students through the process of deciding upon the direction they take after finishing school. We provide impartial guidance and advice on further education, training or employment across KS3, KS4 and KS5.
In addition to involving many outside agencies such as employers and education providers to ensure pupils are provided with a wealth of opportunities to gain and develop their knowledge of the multitude of careers and progression options available to them.

What are the Gatsby Benchmarks (GB)?
We meet GB1 by having a robust programme in place which meets the needs of all our learners GB3. Using Labour Market information GB2, we ensure that we give our students relevant and diverse opportunities to engage with experiences of the workplace GB6 and build their aspirations. Students are able to explore those aspirations within their subjects as each faculty and subject area exposes students to potential career pathways GB4. Through an extensive programme of wider Opportunities students are able to meet a range of employers and employees GB5 and visit universities and apprenticeship providers GB7. We work closely with our Enterprise Partner and a wide range of local and nationwide businesses to ensure that all students are able to discover and nurture their talents and interests. All students will receive professional guidance GB8 across the course of the programme.
Activities are planned to span the whole year. Guidance takes place when and where necessary to address the needs of individual students.

Hello, I'm Dawn Gallacher, New Talent Programme Manager at Severn Trent, one of the largest water companies in Britain. With over 25 years of experience in the energy sector, I've undertaken diverse roles, including managing call centres, leading customer teams, and most recently overseeing new talent programs at Severn Trent. My passion lies in bringing top talent to the organisation and supporting them in realizing their aspirations. My guiding principle for success is simple: if I can positively impact someone each day, I consider it a win! I'm thrilled about the opportunity to collaborate with Fortis Academy as your Enterprise Advisor, where I can contribute my insights and expertise to enhance the careers program and align it with the needs of our future workforce.
To support our delivery of careers, our school is keen on developing strong partnerships with a wide range of educational institutions, training providers and employers who may contribute to our careers programme through:
- raising aspirations and increasing motivation – helping young people identify educational and occupational goals
- demonstrating the relevance of the knowledge and skills learnt in subjects to future opportunities in learning and working
- demonstrating the links between living, learning and earning
- providing work enrichment opportunities including work experience, workplace visits, guest speakers, curriculum support.

Fortis Academy is delighted to be using Unifrog! Unifrog is a fantastic online platform which acts as a one top shop for careers, progression and personal development related information. All pupils in the school from Y7 – Y13 will have a Unifrog account which will enable them to use the careers library to explore a multitude of careers, the sixth form/colleges tool to view what local courses and colleges are available to them as well as a personality test empowering pupils to gain an understanding of the of careers that will suit their personality type and much more, all for free!
