Vision: Enriching Lives
Within the Sixth Form and Vocational faculty at Fortis lies a plethora of Social Science subjects, including Health and Social Care, Sociology, Psychology, Law and Criminology. Within these subjects’ students explore an enriching curriculum, exploring issues of social justice and equality in Sociology, where students are encouraged to widen their world view by analysing and evaluating issues in society from multiple perspectives. In law students are encouraged to debate legal issues and cases in order to actively apply their knowledge and understanding of legal frameworks. In psychology students are encouraged to analyse human behaviour, using a scientific framework, to unpick complex issues, such as why people conform and explanations for mental health conditions. In Health and Social Care students study a wide range of units, including safeguarding, communication, infection control and many more, these units equip our students with a wide range of skills to facilitate their resilience in tackling challenges. Finally, the newest addition to our curriculum offer, Criminology, provides students with insights into why people offend, types of crime, the role of law enforcement personnel and the legal frameworks that underpin the criminal justice system. Studying Social sciences motivates students to aspire to a wide range of future professional roles, which they are equipped for due to the skills they develop through these courses that enables them to be empathetic, independent, enquiring, and passionate individuals.
